Here are some helpful tips to follow before you visit our office for an emergency.
Lost filling and/or crown: Swish with some warm water and avoid chewing with the damaged tooth. Stay away from hard or sticky foods. Call your dentist as soon as possible.
Broken tooth: Swish with some warm water. If there is a swelling use a cold compress on the cheek around the area to keep the swelling down. If you need you can take some over-the-counter medicine. Call the office as soon as possible.
Trauma to the mouth: If a tooth has been knocked out, pick it up by the crown not by the root . Wash the tooth, but try not to wash away any tissue attached to it. If possible stick the tooth back in to the socket. If unable to put the tooth back, put it in a container of milk or ice water and call the office as soon as possible. If you have suffered a cut in your lips, tongue, or cheek, swish with some warm water to clean the area. If there is excess bleeding or a possible broken jaw or any other serious damage, go to the emergency room. Once you have been treated, call the dental office as soon as possible.
